Not every Wi-Fi installation looks the same, and this recent project was a perfect example. One of our clients needed to extend fast, reliable Wi-Fi from their main house to their shed office – located around 100 metres away.

Why This Job Was Different

While most home or office Wi-Fi setups are contained within a single building, our client’s requirement was unique: they wanted seamless connectivity across the property, with their shed doubling as a dedicated office space. That meant ensuring a strong and stable connection outdoors and over a significant distance.

The Requirements

The goal was straightforward:

• Extend Wi-Fi coverage around the property
  
• Provide fast, uninterrupted connectivity to the shed office
  
• Maintain network reliability across the 100m distance
  

Our Solution

To deliver on these requirements, we turned to TP-Link Omada, which is designed for wireless links of up to 5km. That’s far more than we needed here, but it gave our client peace of mind knowing the solution was robust and future-proof. The equipment deployed included:

• A long-range 5GHz wireless bridge
  
• A Wi-Fi 6 access point for better speeds and efficiency
  
• A switch inside the main house to integrate the new equipment seamlessly
  

Implementation

We installed the equipment carefully, running network cabling in conduit to keep everything neat, safe, and protected from the elements. Attention to detail is important in these jobs – not just for performance today, but to ensure reliability in the long run.

David even made a trek into the roof cavity for part of the set up, as you can tell from the photo on the right, it was nicely setup to make a tradie's life easier with plywood platforms and lighting throughout. 

The Result

The results spoke for themselves. Wi-Fi coverage across the site improved dramatically, and the PC in the shed office is now operating seamlessly with a 1Gb/s connection speed delivered over the wireless link. Our client can now work from their shed office with the same speed and stability as if they were connected directly inside the main house.
