Client install: CCTV for a retail showroom

Are you looking to protect your premises and also want to check-in live wherever you are?   You are not alone,
we just completed another CCTV install for a retail client that is able to do just that.

CCTV offers a great way to deter burglars, prevent vandalism,  monitor a workspace such as a manufacturing floor
or in this case, a high-value retail showroom.

The Requirements

Our retail client wanted peace of mind that their premises was monitored, after a number of attempted break-in's in recent months they needed to ensure that had a deterrent in place to prevent further attempts and provide increased security for their staff not to mention their insurance requirements.

Our client wanted to ensure the building was monitored from all angles 24/7.  It was critical for them that the CCTV system be reliable, capable of providing high quality recording and be able to been seen but not touched by potential baddies.

Here is how we did it:

The solution

Taking our clients requirements we deployed a HIKVision based solution.

We supplied the following hardware:

  • 2 x 4K variable focus outdoor bullet cameras
  • 6 x 4K indoor turret cameras
  • HIKVision 8 channel Network Video Recorder (NVR) with 6TB of storage
  • All cabling, cable management, mounts, conduit and training

In this instance we were able to re-use some of the client's existing hardware including:

  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
  • Central patch panel
  • Power Over Ethernet (PoE) switch
  • 24" Monitor

HIKVision is known for their high quality hardware and the decision to go with 4K meant that the camera recording quality was going to be top of the line.

Costs

The total cost for a similar project if we supplied all of the hardware is $6,000 + GST.

Implementation

The install for this project took 2 days total, we teamed up with Peter from Secure Cabling to run all the wiring and cabling, while FortiTech mounted the cameras and configured the system.  The work was done of the weekend to minimise the interruption to staff and clients of the store.

To keep all of the cable runs as unobtrusive as possible,  conduit runs for outdoor cameras were kept as minimal as possible and Peter was kept busy scaling some very high ladders to get the optimal vantage point for each of the cameras. All of the equipment was wired in CAT6 networking cable back to a central patch panel and Power Over Ethernet (PoE) switch that was supplied.

Outcome

All cameras are recording 24x7 and stored on a huge 6TB of storage with UPS battery backup.

As luck would have it (if you can call it that) within a week of the system being operational another break-in attempt occurred, this time it was all caught on camera and our client was able to provide the police with the high quality video recording from 2 different angles of the front door where the attempt was made.

Our client is very happy with the install and has been enjoying the ability to randomly check for activity on the cameras for their ongoing peace of mind that their staff and premises are safe.
